Reading ‘The moment of astrology’ keeps me busy. Geoffrey Cornelius writes very clearly on astrology and most of all deciphers the myths around all the scientific tests that have been done. The test results for astrology have been promising and disappointing, sometimes even in one test.
Astrology is what astrologers do
Well, science can test a lot of things but with astrology this is different. Astrology is what astrologers do, says Bill Sheeran, on his website. He claims that astrology arises when you put a client, a chart and an astrologer together. Interesting indeed. You can learn the technique to do astrology but this gets you only so far. And this is just what happens in all those tests. Astrologers that are asked to do the test will use different techniques. Some of them will use house rulers, others will prefer Sun, Moon and Ascendant, and yet others again will use the Vertex, anti-vertex and black moon, whatever. This calls for different results in the test.
But to take this back in a consultation with a client, this could be just what they need to hear. Some people ‘need to hear’ things in another way. I am sometimes very surprised how I read charts. It is not always the same. I would begin with an overview of the chart, what is there, what does it say? And then the client would come with the questions. In preparing I would notice a little bit the tendency or theme in the chart but the client may need to talk about other things. Sometimes I use elements and qualities a lot, sometimes they are not there at all.
It appears that the client also orchestrates what I would use and say in a way. What I mean is that the client is aware of certain things already and talks from that experience. How can he do something else? My astrological eyes have already spotted for instance that Pluto is going into the 12th house within 6 months and that the Pluto square Pluto is due too. Do I say something about that? That depends on the questions of the client. If he is not yet working on this ‘clearing-out-the-old-no-longer-use-things-in-his-life’, I would not be bothered. I would work with the questions that the client has now. Those questions come up for a reason and together we can deal with those, only for a short time, then the client is away and his life will move on. And so will I.
