I am no lunatic but if I was, I would be spot on. The Moon is orange tonight. Everything is normal still in the middle of the Netherlands, I can see a white full moon. It is looking great, no clouds.
I just went for a run outside and it is hard to believe that the moon will have a full eclipse tonight. It will be orange for about 15 minutes from 11.45 GMT +1. What the people in Belgium and the Netherlands can see is a total lunar eclipse. The first one in three years.
Normally this only happens with the full moon, the Sun and earth are all lined up in a row with the Earth in the middle. The Moon will first have a small shadow that will progress until about 123% of the diameter of the Moon will be covered by the shadow of the Earth. With the full shadow of Earth on the Moon its color will be orange-red.
The next Lunar eclipse is August 28, visible from the United States, New Zealand and Australia.
